Can you beat a free airline ticket for price? Nope. You may end up paying the fees and taxes associated with airline travel, but you can get the lowest air fares by flying free. All you have to do is book a flight that is very popular, hope that it is overbooked, and volunteer to give up your seat to someone who has to take that flight. The gate agents will handle the transaction for you, and they almost always reward you with a travel voucher for a round trip ticket for the future. They also honor your present ticket, so if you can delay your travel for a few hours, catching the next flight out to you destination, this is the way to get the lowest air fares around.
Business travelers often have the hardest time rescheduling their trips because chances are they are going to a scheduled meeting, and not too many companies tolerate rescheduling a meeting so that the employee can take advantage of lowest air fares by getting bumped off a flight. It's perfect, however, for personal travelers who have the flexibility to postpone their arrival times. |
